“There is a lot of wind and snow in the mountains. I have to walk this road once a month. I am used to it. As long as everyone supports each other and overcomes it, there is no communication obstacle that cannot be eliminated.” China Telecom Xinjiang Altay Branch (hereinafter referred to as Altay Telecom) Fuhai County Manager Han Guofu mentioned that he was very calm when he mentioned the repair process of the optical cable at Hongshanzui Port, but it was not as easy as he described to climb the ice and lie in the snow to find the fault point and connect to the network urgently at an altitude of 3600 meters.
At 2:00 on June 9, the optical cable communication in the Hongshanzui Port area of Fuhai County, Altay Region was interrupted, which affected the social prevention and control work of Hongshanzui Port. After having lunch in a hurry, Han Fu, manager of Fuhai County of Altay Telecom, packed up his equipment and took 4 emergency repair personnel on the road to repair the optical cable in the glacier area of Hongshanzui Port in the middle of the Altai Mountains.
Hongshanzui Port Glacier is located in the north of Fuhai County, 240 kilometers away from Fuhai County. Although it is now in the midsummer season, it is still icy and snowy here. Due to the long distance from Fuhai to Hongshanzui and all of them are mountain roads, the vehicles of the emergency repair team could only keep driving at 40km/h, and did not arrive at Hongshanzui until 11 pm.
In order to ensure that the obstacle is repaired in the shortest time, the emergency repair team rushed to the obstacle site at 8:00 a.m. on June 10. According to the survey, the fault point is in the alpine jungle above 2,800 meters above sea level. The ice and snow in the Hongshanzui area has not melted, causing the road to go up the mountain to be blocked. The repair team carried backpacks and repair tools on foot through the Gobi, across glaciers, across swamps, and climbed snow-capped mountains. It takes at least 10 hours to go back and forth on the 15-kilometer mountain road, and there are still unmelted snow and sharp rocks along the way, which makes the rescue team walk very slowly and consumes a lot of physical strength. The repair team climbed the ice and lay on the snow all the way, helped each other, and finally reached the fault area after 5 hours under the guidance of the old line maintainer Master Quwak.
After arriving at the designated area, everyone encountered a problem. The optical cable with a length of about 1 km was buried under the thick snow, and it was impossible to determine where the specific breakpoint of the optical cable was. The deepest snow cover was more than 1 meter, and the repair team could not find the fault point without shoveling snow tools. In the face of the sudden hail weather, everyone encouraged each other and tried to find a solution to overcome the difficulties. After research and investigation by the repair team all the way, along the top of the snow to the junction of the optical cable below, the optical cable buried below was pulled out, and finally the breakpoint area was found, and the optical cable can be welded. This section of optical cable has 48 cores in total, and it takes at least 3 hours to complete the overall fusion. The repair team started welding at 3:30 p.m., and used raincoats for the welding personnel and the optical cable welding machine to block the hail attack. The transmission bureau engineer in charge of welding, Cha Liheng, squatted on the snow for 4 hours without a moment’s pause. Everyone Working together and cooperating with each other, braving hail and the cold wind on the mountain finally completed all the welding work around 20 o’clock in the evening.
“There is a lot of wind and snow in the mountains. I have to walk this road once a month. I am used to it. As long as everyone supports each other and overcomes it, there is no unavoidable communication obstacle.” South Korea’s Fu Jian said.
Due to the weather, the physical condition of the personnel and other reasons, the rich and his party of South Korea need to replenish their physical strength on the road in the middle of the mountain. Naan, ham sausage, and beef jerky are their feasts. They continued to climb from more than 2,800 meters above sea level to an obstacle of about 3,600 meters to connect the optical cable. When they were hungry, they ate a big naan cake to fill their hunger. When they were thirsty, they drank a mouthful of ice-cold snow water. When the Altay Telecom Monitoring Center confirmed that the optical cable was unblocked, Everyone showed joy and big smiles. This long and difficult communication repair road composed of high-intensity ultraviolet rays, snow-capped glaciers, and swamps and Gobi, they walked calmly and firmly.
